I bought this wireless adapter 6 months ago and very fiddly to install and was very easy to connect to my wireless router.

Overall it was very good for a month or two but suddenly the connection speeds started to get weak and after it while it stopped working but windows vista said it was working fine.

The hardware inside is very cheap and gave up very easily after constant use.

I would advise not to buy this wireless adapter and stick with the reputable brands like Netgear, Belkin and Linksys.

  Exceeded expectations

I'm not sure why some people have had problems, but for me it was a fantastic solution to my girlfriends connection problems on her Macbook. It kept losing connection or having just very very poor connection when ever she was further than 5ft away from the router.

This was easily installed (by her, and she's actually terrible with computers) and at first told me it hadn't worked. So I had a look at it

Two things I noted which other people should know:

If using a Macbook, make sure to turn the airport off. Otherwise the airport and the Edimax will attempt to connect at the same time and neither of them will work. (This was why it didn't work for her)

Second, some times it says its connected, but its not. Just make sure you put in your WAP key every time you turn you computer back on.

All in all, its solved the connection problem, and even from upstairs the signal is always above 80% and is noticeably faster.

At first glance this appeared to be exactly what i needed.
The installation is an easy process with a user friendly wizard to help get things going.
The received signal at first appeared good, 70% compared to the "poor" i had been getting before.
On connection i was highly disappointed by the quality of the connection. The connection itself is highly erratic and not suitable for anyone needing a constant connection for example gaming or instant messaging.
As the son of a highly qualified network engineer i did everything in my power to correct this however after wasting hours of tweaking i was left with a highly unstable connection.

  Not bad...

At first glance I was worried about the brand but the versatile antenna and affordable price at £12.99 makes this quite a decent offer.

The received strength could be improved but the versatile antenna can be fixed to avoids dead speed.

  Superb piece of Kit

Having bought this product to improve my WIFI signal for my desktop, which had a Belkin WIFI dongle, I found the product to be extremely efficient and has improved all my loss of network issues.

Brilliant, it does exactly what it says on the packet.

Works very well with leopard on my macpro. Only need internet to download updates so didn't want to install airport card. I just plug this in when i need to.
Signal strength is much better than my old usb dongle.
Setup in os x is straight forward.
Note; this adaptor does get very hot (which apparently is normal) - if that worries you there is a usb base-station thingy in the box so you could mount the antenna in that instead.
It also has a wps button so you can 'pair' it with a wps-compatible device for extra security.
Overall a very good product.

  Very disappointing performance

I purchased this product in the hope that it would have improved sensitivity and performance over my existing Netgear W111 adapter. Unfortunately, this did not happen and now I have had to continue using my Netgear until I can find a replacement.

The Edimax did not perform at all well, nice screens with good info but that does not help to improve my signal.

This is the first time I've reviewed a product I've bought from Play, but I was so impressed by this that I felt compelled to.

I bought this to replace my aging D-Link USB adaptor, which was struggling to hold a signal in my new flat. The Edimax unit has blown it out of the water, as I'm now getting a strong, fast signal which hasn't dropped once.

It was very easy to install - literally 2 minutes, no problems with Vista, and I was online. The range of the unit is very impressive, too as it's picking up several networks that my D-Link couldn't even see.

The unit itself is very small and well-designed, and is a quite pleasing white colour. The aerial section can be rotated through 180 degrees to obtain the best signal, and the USB cradle has a sticker on the bottom so you can attach it to your desk/a wall if you want to. Mine is sitting happily on my desk without using the sticker though! If you don't want the unit visible, you can simply plug the aerial section into a USB port at the back of your computer.

The only negative thing about the product is that it comes in one of those annoying plastic packages that you need to take the scissors to in order to get it out. It's a minor frustration though!

I was very impressed overall with the Edimax. The performance is fantastic for such a low price. Don't bother with more well-known brands like Belkin, which are inferior - this is the one to go for.
