Bought for tablet after two PCMCIA cards failed. Installed Software, added dongle, hey presto? Speeds of up to 150 mbs dependant on location in house.
Tip of the day: use extension piece (included in box) in poor areas to boost signal.
So good I am buying another for son's desktop!
Thank you to Edimax for quality efficient product & Play.com for good value combined with speedie delivery. (Asda wanted twice the cost!)

  Excellent!

Works faultlessly with Windows XP. Also working with Linux Mint after slight tweaking of modprobe to blacklist rt2x00usb, rt2x00lib and rt2800usb.

Great reception for such a small dongle

I'm on my second of these adaptors - not because one broke, but because I dropped my laptop and it took the brunt of the knock - I was so impressed with it though I immediately ordered another.

While I use it most of the time with linux (see the other review about configuring it), it's hard to fault - the connection strength compared to my old Netgear WG111T is great, and it runs a lot cooler.

About dropping that laptop... I decided to take the first adaptor apart because it wasn't working, and wow, it's an absolute work of art inside - there's even 2 chips hidden "under" the plastic bit of the USB connector that stops you putting them in the wrong way !

  No fuss

Ok I have a ratty old desktop just recently I was sent a free BT home hub and I didnt have anyway to connect to it I had seen this recommended its cheap I mean come on its under 10 quid plug in switch on install driver from provided disc and away you go .

My set up is complicated a bit like Frankensteins monster and Im sure there is plenty I could do to boost the speed of this little number but right out of the box it works no problems at all and the connection speed is on par with what I had connected directly to an old fashioned router so I really cant complain .

Look if your looking for warp speed buy a more advanced and more expensive one if your looking for quick connection no fuss no muss with good speed then you cant go wrong with this its as simple as that you get what you pay for .

Worked straight away on a Mac

Worked fine on a macbook core duo. Its RT2870 chipset and you can get drivers for mac from the ralink site upto snow leopard (10.6). As long as you keep the ralink software running then it does not lose the connection when going to sleep. The ralink software is not pretty but it works. The connection speed is fast it has not dropped once.

Works under Linux after some tweaking

I have this usb adapter working under Ubuntu 10.4 but only after blacklisting the rt2x00 modules
If you are new to Linux and prefer not to mess under the hood then this device isn't for you.
If you willing to give it a go simply do this,

1. Unplug your USB WiFi adapter and restart your computer.
2. In terminal: sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

add these lines to the end of the file:

blacklist rt2x00usb
blacklist rt2x00lib
blacklist rt2800usb

Save the file

3. Insert your USB wifi device.

I only give it 3 stars because of the need for the blacklisting which shouldn't be necessary since its listed by the manufacturer as Linux friendly.

My built in wifi on my 5 year old Acer 3023 laptop stopped working when installing my new HTC desire software. I couldn't figure out the prolem so installed this dongle. Cheap, arrived quickly and was working within 2-3 minutes with my BTHomeHub. Just need to get my new HP wireless printer to bloody connect wirelessly.........

it really connects at 135 and 150 mbps in the same room as router but when its away like upstairs connection speed decrease between 80 and 55 mbps. all and all its a good product which really works fine.

  Very disapointed

I had high hopes for this device after having had to use big old cumbersome USB adaptors in the past to get anywhere near a 150Mbps connection to my 802.11n router. I have to say I'm really disappointed in this, the built in 802.11g adaptor in my laptop gets a 54Mbps connection and an excellent signal strength on the floor below the router and 1 room over, this little fella could only muster up a maximum of 50Mbps and even then it fluctuated massively between that and 13Mbps. 'Increases wireless coverage 3 times further' I don't think so! I'll be returning this for a full refund.
