Contains the films: The Shooting, Ride In The Whirlwind, The Wild Ride, Flight To Fury, Studs Lonigan.

The Shooting (Dir. Monte Hellman, 1965): Monte Hellman reinvented the Western genre with 'The Shooting', a cryptic tale of revenge that has become an underground masterpiece of existentialism.

The story follows Willett Gashade (Warren Oates), an ex-bounty hunter who returns home searching for his brother, only to discover that he has disappeared. He is met by Coley (Will Hutchins), a frazzled cowboy who is recovering from having witnessed the murder of his best friend. When a beautiful but tempestuous mystery woman (Millie Perkins) arrives, Gashade reluctantly agrees to escort her through the Utah desert. Along the way, Gashade begins to suspect that she is trailing someone, which is confirmed after Billy Spear (Jack Nicholson), a ruthless bounty hunter, joins the party. Unsure of their target, Gashade and Coley continue to inch forward, leery of Billy Spear's menacing presence.

Ride In The Whirlwind (Dir. Monte Hellman, 1965): Directed by Monte Hellman (2-Lane Blacktop) and scripted by Jack Nicholson.

Three cowboys, mistaken for members of an outlaw gang, are relentlessly pursued by a posse. One of the 1960's most underrated Westerns.

The Wild Ride (Dir. Harvey Berman, 1960): Johnny Varron is a smart mouthed, arogant punk and 'Top Man' of the gang. Johnny rules his gang with an iron fist, dictating activities, designating girlfriends as 'in' or 'out' when his second lieutenant and best friend Dave falls for a girl, who will not fit in with the gangs 'code'. Things start to go down hill for all concerned...

Flight To Fury (Dir. Monte Hellman, 1964): Scripted by Jack Nicholson and the director, Monte Hellman, this film precedes their later collaborations on Ride In The Whirlwind and The Shooting.

Joe Gaines (Dewey Martin), becomes entangled in a dangerous web of deceit when a satchel of jewels enters his life. After meeting the outgoing Jay Wickham (Nicholson) in a casino, Joe beds a beautiful woman, only to find her murdered when he gets out of the shower. Jumping aboard a small plane headed for the Phillipines, Joe is shocked to discover that Wickham has tracked him down. Another passenger, Lorgren (Vic Diaz), and his gorgeous girlfriend, Destiny Cooper (Fay Spain), appear to have ulterior motives for getting close to Joe. When the airplane crashes in the jungle, leaving only a few survivors, everyone's true colours shine through. A battle ensues, leading to a final duel between Joe and Wickham, deciding once and for all who - if anyone - will keep the diamonds for themselves...

Studs Lonigan (Dir. Irving Lerner, 1960): The film adaptation of author James T. Farrell's "Studs Lonigan" trilogy takes place in the slums of Chicago's South Side in the 1920s. It centers on the growing pains of the Studs Lonigan, including his tempestuous relationship with his father, his attempts to make easy money with his buddies, and his randy ways with the two women in his life. Studs has a lot of growing up to do, and the way he handles these and other situations may very well determine what kind of man he will become...
