At Play.com we are passionate about the importance of charitable work. We also know that across our diverse and committed staff members we have many people who want to make a difference. With these thoughts in mind we have decided that we can collectively make a huge difference by supporting one charity that we can focus all our fundraising and charitable work towards. This allows us to make a greater impact to a cause that we really care about.
The charity we are committed to supporting is YoungMinds, the UK’s leading charity dedicated to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people. There are many difficulties and challenges in life that can impact upon the mental and emotional welfare of the young. A staggering 1 in 10 children and young people aged 5 - 16 suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder - that is around three children in every school classroom. YoungMinds are working hard to reduce this number, offering support for those affected as well as their parents or carers. The charity is raising awareness to these issues, and we want to help them and the young people whose lives are affected.
Through their research, campaigning and influence, YoungMinds are helping and empowering young people across the UK to overcome the difficulties they face.
The money that is raised for YoungMinds helps to improve the lives of children and young people who are experiencing difficulties with their mental and emotional health. It also supports those who are dealing with children’s mental health services, helping achieve positive results.
Currently our donations are contributing towards funding the YoungMinds Helpline. The free Helpline offers essential help and support to any adult worried about the emotional problems, behaviour or mental health of a child or young person up to the age of 25. Funds also go towards training and supporting professionals who work closely with young people. YoungMinds recognise that intervention and support at a young age are really important in preventing problems from escalating.
Any contributions can help improve the lives of young people, so if you’d like to help you can visit the YoungMinds donation page.
Since announcing our chosen charity, our staff members have been busy fundraising for YoungMinds. Everyone agreed that it was a cause we could really get behind and there have been all sorts of events and activities. Some of the highlights include: bake sales, bucket collections, quiz nights, clothing sales, tuck shops, sports events, marathons, endurance runs and a skydive, as well as upcoming plans to participate in the London to Paris bike ride. The YoungMinds cause is something that is close to the hearts of many of our staff members and they’ve risen to the occasion to offer their support (literally, in the case of the skydive).
