Ageing kung fu expert Master Yu (Yu Jim Yuen) is invited to travel from Hong Kong to Los Angeles to save a local school from its rivals by taking on the headmasters of each of the other schools in a kung fu contest. Realising the school he has been working to save has been using him to make money from gambling, Yu disowns the school and sets about teaching one of his students (Bill Louie) the secrets of his kung fu style. In doing so, he incurs the wrath of a local Mob boss who has lost a fortune on the illegal betting scam. Now Master Yu must rely on his skills to defend himself against the LA street gang's top fighters. Yu is aided in his struggle by his energetic student who has begun to combine his new kung fu knowledge with his considerable karate skills and with movements he has picked up from studying a toy robot to create his own "robot-style" kung fu. An "old skool" kung fu classic, THE OLD MASTER is notable for featuring the only film appearance of real-life kung fu master Yu Jim Yuen, the man responsible for running the Peking Opera Academy and for training such Hong Kong legends as Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Biao Yuen, Corey Yuen and Wah Yuen. Directed by Joseph Kuo (Shaolin Brothers; The Unbeaten 28). The film also stars World Karate Champion Bill Louie (Fist Of Fear, Touch Of Dead; The Bodyguard).
